David lyttle

David has a particular passion and expertise for elementary mathematics. He is a strong advocate of pattern based conceptual thinking, and using materials in an authentic context. He is an Elementary Math and Numicon Accredited workshop trainer and consultant. He has delivered full day (and multiple day) training workshops and consultations to a range of International Schools, with a focus on International Baccalaureate [IB] Primary Year Programme [PYP] Schools, in the last few years. The workshops were always met with positive acclaim. He is at ease conducting both online e-learning workshops and webinars as well as face-to-face workshops and consultations.

David is currently employed as a Support for Learning teacher, and Instructional Coach for Elementary Mathematics at the International School of Düsseldorf, an IB World School. David has credentials as both an elementary school core teacher, as well as a specialist in K-12 inclusion education (focus mathematics). He loves working with students at both ends of the learning spectrum, and coaching teachers to support all learners in context to deliver the best pedagogical practice in their classrooms. His workshops combine these real-world experiences and illustrations with a deep theoretical background. He is particularly interested the cognitive psychology and the neuroscience of how students learn, and has set up many successful customized intervention programs for students with varying specialized needs including gifted and talented students. David is a strong advocate for Numicon. He appreciates the overall versatility and utility of Numicon to complement any quality math program and enhance understanding in a multitude of mathematical domains.

Beyond his teaching, and consultancy work. David authored various curriculum mapping works that link various math programs to the IB PYP. David is always looking at ways to support the widest possible student population, while ensuring this is done from a solid research base applied in an authentic context. He is quick to be involved in projects that allow this to happen. To this end he is also in the process of creating a book for mathematical interventions, that includes a series concept based lessons, linked to the PYP international school curriculum. He regularly shares his passions and latest research at conferences worldwide.
